Florida's "Mini Season" is an annual two day event, taking place during the final Wednesday and Thursday of July. During this time anyone with a proper Florida fishing license (with Lobeter Permit) may bullynet or dive for lobster.
The attraction of Mini Season is that the event takes place prior to the opening of the commercial lobster season. Since the commercial fishermen have not had any traps out for a few months the lobster population is at a maximum. This allows recreational fisherman their most opportune chance at catching their state issued limit. Once the regular season begins and the lobster trappers have established themselves those bugs become much harder to find.
While this blog is mostly focused on our inner circle's yearly trip to the Florida Keys we hope that it can grow into a useful resource for new and experienced lobstermen alike. Our group has a lineal line of Mini Season trips dating back to 1986. During that time we have gained a substantial amount of knowledge about pulling off a successful lobster hunt.
Our Mini Season blog is a homage to the greatest two day event in the world and we hope that you enjoy it, learn something from it, or even better both!
